Joanna Roper, UK Special Envoy for Gender Equality
Government actors are critical in building momentum for and influencing action on girls’ access to quality education around the world through focused Education Diplomacy efforts. Joanna Roper, the Special Envoy for Gender Equality of the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), leads the UK foreign policy agenda that shapes programs consciously designed to deliver greater opportunities for women and girls. Education is a critical component of the FCO’s broad, multi-sectoral work toward achieving their objectives for gender equality. The FCO hosted a roundtable on “Diplomacy to Mobilize Momentum for Girls’ Education” this past year, with Ms. Roper facilitating the timely dialogue among government, civil society, philanthropy, NGOs, and multilateral institution representatives.
